Day 7- Street Food

There is probably a reason as to why people all over the world love street food. I have always wondered about it..
Is it the freedom from paranoia of hygiene? or the generosity of sinful goodness? or the value for money? or the high one gets of standing on the road and eating something?
Well for me personally(though I have never been a fan of street food), it is about the people who make/serve them.
Something about them--their enterprising nature, agility of work or salesmanship that attracts flocks of people to them.
Have you seen these people who just set up a mini pani puri stall on just one plastic stool outside some supermarkets?
I tried one such stall today.
We were two of us, but I asked for one pani puri because I wanted to test the quality first before ordering more. I expected the guy to coax me to buy two but he didn't.
He wore his plastic gloves and swiftly mashed some potatoes, threw in some spices and in a certain rhythm kept serving them...
I don't know if there was something special in there, but I certainly fell for it.
After a couple of them, I told my sister in Tamil , that we should probably get another. This guy(don't know if he understood my language) asked me with a naughty smile.."Ma'am, how is it? Do you like it? "
I said I did and we will take another plate.
I saw a certain pride in his face.maybe in his mind, he must have sworn to make me buy another one..not by begging or coaxing but by showing the quality of his work and his professionalism.
In the end, he also gave us a complimentary dry puri ..with a dash of lime...
Not to mention, I ate it and enjoyed the dance of the flavours as much as I did enjoy the experience itself.
Thank you universe for showing me such people..Thank you for showing me what dignity of labour should be like!
