Day 29-Anne with an E

I have been reminded of holidays spent in the couch , hot food during rainy days, smell of lavender in the air and lonely swings in trees as I watch a show called Anne with an E . It is a melody of words and sights and something inexplicably soothing about the sweet sweet sound of perfectly spoken "Queen's English".
I remember as a child, watching a show called "PolyAnna" at my friend's place. Tv itself was a rarity then..cable tv even more and shows from abroad was an absolute jackpot(if you are lucky enough to get ur hands on the video tape-Courtesy-some Affluent aunt or uncle living abroad). She was one such lucky one and thanks to her, I got to see it too. I remember vividly the sight of pinafore skirts and carriages, scenes of fairs and cakes and of course the delightful music of perfectly spoken English. Childhood memories come flooding back to me as I watch this show too.
The dialogues are absolutely charming..sometimes so very profound, it is burdening to see them uttered by a young girl-this girl who is the centre of the theme is an orphan adopted by a brother and sister-both single and old.
One such dialogue that the girl says -"I can't eat. I am sorry. I am in the depths of despair. Can you eat when you are in the depths of despair? Did you every imagine that you were in the depths of despair? It is a very uncomfortable feeling indeed. When you try to eat, a big lump comes right up into your throat and you can't swallow anything ..not even if it was chocolate caramel. I had chocolate caramel once two years ago and it was simply delicious."
That dialogue stayed with me for very long. One can see the profoundness caused by the girl's experiences coated by the innocence that belongs to her age. Some genius has made this for sure!
This child and her hunger for imagination, her ingenious way with words, her craving to belong..to be accepted...and all of that vivaciousness... is a treat to the senses. This is one show I want to make a copy of and keep it in my vault to see many many times in my life..no matter how old I become.
The colours-greys and robin egg blues, The sights-cottages, barns and trees with white flowers, the sounds-the mesmerising sound of a lone cello and many violins, milk delivered in glass bottles, skirts with box pleats, stockings, pigtails with ribbons, turnip, carrot and steak for dinner, slates and chalk , Hats and lace..oh this show will transport you to a different time and place where you will see yourself breathing and living the glorified life in Britain.
