Day19-Food Glorious food!
There is one of these characters in the book that I am reading-A typical Singaporean woman who consoles the girl who is going through deep emotional distress and says "There is no problem in this world that food cannot solve!" How trueeee!!!
Sometimes I feel that the shows on TV involving food are the most challenging. You can appreciate art and music on TV because the audience exactly sees and hear what you do! But food? How would one get to describe the smell and taste? It must take a very high skill for communication ..Dont you think?
Well I think the best you can do to describe taste is the feeling you get when you eat something..
We could probably say.."It was a party in the mouth" or that "I went to heaven and came back" but thats the best you can do. To be able to precisely describe a favour or taste without relating it to something else is not possible. If you attempt to do that, you would just say ..It is sweet or spicy...Duhhhhh..
My 10 year old nephew ate hot aloo parathas right off the stove with pickle and yogurt and said "I have nothing to say..I am just lost for words". :)
Have you tried describing a taste..?
Taste of your mother's rasam?
Taste of the street food which makes you want to just go back for more?
Taste of that biryani when you were famished to death?
Taste of the dosa that a small mess in the street corner serves?
Well..Few things are just beyond words...and we are glad it is that way!
Bon Appetite!
