Day 74-History repeats

I have heard parents utter one sentence again and again..when the topic of alternate education comes up.
"There is nothing wrong with the traditional educational system.Look at us..we have survived and done well in life..."
Well...I completely agree..our children are indeed turning out to be like us.
The problem with our generation is that we live in a perpetual state of denial..we think we are a smart gen and our children should be like us. The day we start identifying that the problem is with our goddamned generation and the next generation shouldn't be like us, is when we are going to create a better future.
A few things that our children say ...Should remind us of ourselves. These should make our antennae go up and realise that we have infected the next gen.

1. "Why should I study history?"(dude..we are doomed when the child says this)
2. "Is this nice?" -That state of constantly seeking approval...clear sign of lack of individuality and a future ridden in fear of the society
3. "I hate Math"- I just don't get this..whenever a child says this..the father gives a cheeky smile and says "my son is just like me"...Dude..I have no words to express my contempt for you
4. I want to be an engineer/doctor/aerospace engineer(this usually dies out during the 12th standard)-These are the only career options that will make my parents happy. So let me study that shit and later get into the music industry
5. I will study one day before exams-so I can retain better- That vicious cycle of memorise..vomit..repeat...
6. "I lost 5 marks because of an out of syllabus question"...(FAIL!)
7. "I came first in class...I beat the topper by 1 mark-Will you buy me that video game now?"-- I have no words to express my feelings for this ---FACEPALM
8. "What book is this? Oh I have watched the movie.Dont have the patience to read books..!" - No wonder our vocabulary consists only of slang words and words that don't even exist for god's sake. Don't even get me started on the pathetic spellings....

So if you think I am just over reacting..and that our children are "awesome"(that overused..overrated word) just like us..Well...Good luck world!
